The newest vendor at Reading Terminal Market hails from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. And what is Kennett Square famous for? Hint: The town holds an annual Mushroom Festival and is known as the Mushroom Capital of the World.
Mushroom purveyor KSS Fresh is now open in the market, in the space formerly occupied by Shibumi Farm (which also specialized in mushrooms but was not based out of the Mushroom Capital of the World). Expect mushrooms, mushroom soup, mushroom tea, mushroom merch, and kits to grown your own mushrooms.
KSS Fresh is an offshoot of KSS Sales, a big-time Kennett Square-based mushroom grower and distributor. Owner John Davidson says KSS Fresh’s mushroom are brought to Reading Terminal within 24 hours of being harvested — “It’s the closest you can get to fresh-picked mushrooms without having to make the trip to Kennett Square,” he says in a press release.
