A three day training programme on Scientific Cultivation of Mushroom concluded at IC AR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, Imphal yesterday.
This training programme was jointly organized the Centre and ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom (DMR) from June 21.ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom (DMR) is the apex Government body of the country pursuing on research and development on mushrooms.
Dr Anupam Barh, Scientist from ICAR-DMR, Solan, HP represented Directorate of Mushroom in the training programme.
A total of 59 participants comprising of farmers, women, rural youth and entrepreneurs participated in the training programme.
The programme targeted potential mushroom growers from far flung districts and villages of the State.
The training programme comprised of farmers from Chandel district, under Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan whose villages are on the border areas with Myanmar such as New Somtal, Sajik Tampak, Chakpikarong, Lembung villages and also from areas in Tamenglong districts namely Gaidimjang, Rongdai and Thanagong villages.
Some farmers from Imphal West and East, Bishnupur and Thoubal also participated.
The training programme comprised of both theory and hands-on practical classes designed to impart and enhance the skill of a mushroom grower.
The training attempted to cover a wide range of topics starting with nutritional and medicinal value of mushrooms to value addition of mushroom crop.
For the first time, the knowledge of newly improved technology developed at ICAR, Manipur Centre while cultivation of button, shitake and milky mushrooms was imparted to farmers.
The participants were introduced and interacted with Sh Ibohal Sharma, a progressive farmer also shared his experiences and efforts.
During feedback, they expressed appreciation of the training programme and trainers and motivation to start mushroom cultivation.
