While trekking along the Racquette River in St. Lawrence County, my camera came lens-to-stalk with these both common and unusual spore species. Pink, white, blue, gray, orange, there’s no need to look to the sky for these colors but rather just under your feet.
With names like “Witches’ Butter” and “Turkey Tail” and “Boar’s Head Tooth” you’d think all mushrooms are edible. But, a mushroom pocket guide will quickly convince you otherwise.
Rather than test fate, I’ll leave the harvesting to the experts and just take mushroom mugshots. If you’re interesting in doing the same, check out the Stone Valley Falls website.
