This year, the least amount of mushroom poisoning has been registered in Ukraine for the last 20 years, chief toxicologist of the Health Ministry of Ukraine, head of the Ukrainian Center for Toxicology Borys Sheyman told a press conference on the topic: "Situation with mushroom poisoning in Ukraine," ForUm correspondent reported.
In particular, he noted that for the last two years, a tendency on sharp decrease in mushroom poisoning has been observed.
From the beginning of the year to August 28, Sheyman said that only 35 cases of mushroom poisoning were registered. As a result, four children and three adults were killed.
The specialist stressed that basically, people get poisoned from so-called "non-mushroom regions" of Ukraine including Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhya, Odessa regions and Crimea. This is due to the fact that people in these regions do not have the culture of mushrooming and therefore make more mistakes.
Sheyman noted that this statistic is not the final this year, as the peak of the mushroom season will be in September.
