VAIL, Colorado — Four Seasons Resort Vail announced the return of its popular event series “Mushrooms & Mercedes” for four dates in August. Attendees will be escorted in a Four Seasons Mercedes to forage for mushrooms with expert Larry Evans, returning to the resort's restaurant Flame for a dinner featuring the mushrooms picked on the hunt.
“Mushroom foraging is a lesser-known, yet highly enjoyable, summer pastime in the Vail Valley,” said Mark Herron, general manager of the resort. “We have partnered with Larry Evans, a renowned mushroom forager, affectionately known as the ‘Indiana Jones of mushroom hunting,' to offer our guests a unique day trip to hunt for mushrooms and enjoy a gourmet dinner upon return.”
To welcome participants, Evans will give an overview of what types of mushrooms to hunt for, what to avoid and how to properly pick and clean a mushroom. Then, guests will board the Resort's fleet of Mercedes sport-utility vehicles en route to a scenic foraging destination. Guests will enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch with wine before returning to the resort.
After the foray, the group will reconvene in the kitchen of Flame, the resort's signature restaurant. Executive Chef Jason Harrison will lead a culinary demonstration incorporating the freshly picked mushrooms. Finally, guests will enjoy a dinner, featuring the mushrooms — perhaps a chanterelle or a white king bolete — picked on the excursion.
Participation in a “Mushrooms & Mercedes” excursion is $200 per person. All supplies are included.
Excursions take place from 10 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m. on the following dates:
